About us

THE AKWAKA FOUNDATION

BACKGROUND

Following the retirement from active ministry of Rev Dr and Mrs. Alhassan Akwaka we, the family, wish to honour them. After more than half a century (approximately 56 years) in active service and ministry it is proper that they are honoured. We feel this event is necessary to honour and preserve a godly legacy, something which seldom occurs in our part of the world.  Within the African context, achievers are hardly celebrated and even when they are celebrated it is short lived. Many of our heroes of faith have not been celebrated due to neglect. We believe that it is time for Africa to start documenting our faith heroes and the Akwaka foundation is leading the way.

Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Akwaka touched many lives and blazed a unique trail within the body of Christ going after rural-to-urban migrants from the north of Ghana in the city of Accra long before it became fashionable.  They held a holistic philosophy of helping the poor both in spirit and in body.

Although this line of ministry was not physically rewarding, they carried on even to their own detriment and resisted attempts to change focus.  It is safe to say that none or very few were pursuing this line of call and thus he is regarded as a pioneer in the field of urban missions. We believe that such pioneering spirit should be honoured preserved for future generations.
